This article is the result of an historiographic essay about the Colombian and Latin American social, educational and political development, supported by the influence of the Marxist learning method and some topological categories, from which Germán Zabala is able to integrate mathematics teaching, social sciences understanding, and political practices into a popular politics educational program. Zabala is a researcher, educator, politician and a revolutionary who, from the margins, has left an important legacy to Colombia and Latin America.
