Abstract

GALLINI, Stefania. History, environment, politics: The path of the environmental history in Latin America. Nómadas [online]. 2009, n.30, pp.92-102. ISSN 0121-7550.

After several years of gestation the environmental history is currently an academic field with recognized relevance as an investigation and education area in many Latin American countries. The article makes a reading about the development of this field in the region and identifies three aspects which have characterized the literature published in Latin America: first, the theories and methods of Latin American environmental history; second, the cultural reading of the environmental history; finally, the analysis of the relationship between territorial expansion, exported goods, and new learning from 1870 to 1930.
