Abstract

GAMA, Luis Eduardo. The place of the other in the hermeneutic human sciences -and some perspectives for Latin America-. Nómadas [online]. 2009, n.31, pp.125-137. ISSN 0121-7550.

Hermeneutics is often tied to a particular method of social sciences research. This point of view not only ignores modern hermeneutic philosophical developments, but also leads to a markedly procedural perspective of the humanities, putting aside many of the ethical implications of these disciplines. We refer particularly here to the question of otherness, that is to say, the difficulty in understanding others. To be able to consider the ethical horizons of otherness in which human sciences work, in is very advantageous to understand the workings of the humanities as a process of the fusion of horizons. This notion, coming from the hermeneutics of Hans-Georg Gadamer, is here exposed, analyzed, and sized from a Latin-American perspective.

Keywords : hermeneutics; Hans- Georg Gadamer; otherness; fusion of horizons, social sciences.
