Abstract

ZULETA PARDO, Mónica. The morality of cruelty. Nómadas [online]. 2010, n.33, pp.13-29. ISSN 0121-7550.

Taking the bicentennial of "Independence" celebration as an excuse, this article presents a genealogical exercise about the professional development of social sciences in Colombia, starting with a survey of the 20 th century intellectual history. A personal reading of Nietzsche’s On the Genealogy of Morality is followed by the hypothesis stating that "the will to seem civilized" is the leading sense of intellectual moral. Finally, it invites intellectuals to construct critical instruments that creatively connect ideas, knowledge and politics.

Keywords : intellectual history; philosophy; genealogy; professional social sciences; Nietzsche.
