Abstract

Through the case of the circus arts in Buenos Aires, Argentina, the text analyzes the way in which different forms of understanding culture either as means in the social transformation and identity reaffirmation or as an instrument in the search of political profit in the equation culture-development. It is focused on the forms in which different local groups of artists negotiate with some State's marketing-based cultural policies. Finally, it is relevant to analyze in a distinctive form the "use of culture" by some power groups and by the civil society.
