Abstract

From the critical review of relevant literature sources in the contemporary debates in the humanities and social sciences, i propose a historiographical analysis and mapping of the three historical uses of the notion of culture. After a contextualization of the term, will address the relationship between culture and civilization and i will problematize the historical use of culture as a means of distinction and as capital, and finally, i will expose the configuration of culture and "the cultural" as a strategic staging ground for the political demands of rights.
