Abstract

BARAJAS SANDOVAL, Luz Cristina. Health and rights according to the law, not the life. Nómadas [online]. 2013, n.38, pp.255-265. ISSN 0121-7550.

The article presents a view on how some social and cultural aspects that determine equal healthcare, health and well-being come together, examining the case of migrant women in Ecuador. It shows that not only the absence of laws or fails in their execution, or the deprivation of public services attempt against their rights: stereotypes, violence and gender-, citizenship-, ethnic-based discrimination on both sides of the border severely affect them. It concludes that displaced women are more vulnerable to violations of their human rights.

Keywords : Displacement; forced migration; gender violence; placed contexts; health rights; Colombian women.
