Abstract

ALVARADO, Sara Victoria  and  PINEDA MUNOZ, Jaime. The environmental turn in social sciences. Nómadas [online]. 2014, n.41, pp.13-25. ISSN 0121-7550.

This paper deals with social sciences focusing on the effect the southern metaphor has had in our understanding of social matters and the acknowledgement of a line of thought linked to the environmental condition of culture. Firstly, Joaquin Torres' inverted image of America is taken to emphasize the South's metaphorical unfolding. Secondly, it proposes to review the natural contract concept to reinterpret the discursive practices in social sciences. In conclusion, it stands out the need for an environmental change as a new scenario for the field.

Keywords : environmental turn; South; natural contract; inverted America.
