Abstract

The article starts off from the idea that a cultural turn has been promised since the 1980s. It shows how this turn has gotten lost attempting to approach the relationship between culture, society and technology. It states the supremacy of culture over society, and society over technology, from the so-called cultural materialism. It concludes that the resulting approach is a mixing of vulgar materialism and technological determinism not a theoretical debate between political economy and cultural studies.
