Abstract

PARRINI, Rodrigo. BIOPOLITICS OF ABANDONMENT: MIGRATION AND MEDICAL DEVICES IN MEXICO'S SOUTHERN BORDER. Nómadas [online]. 2015, n.42, pp.111-127. ISSN 0121-7550.

Based on an ethnographic study performed in a municipality in Mexico's southern border, this article explores how medical devices, both in their practical and epistemic dimensions, operate on the flow of migrants passing through this zone. These structures collaborate in the creation of what we call abandonment biopolitics, acting as guardians of a social and sanitary border that intends to separate the migrant from the local population and control the dangers they could bring.

Keywords : abandonment; biopolitics; border; medicine; Mexico; migration.
