Abstract

BELTRAN VALENCIA, Gina. DORIS SALCEDO: CREATOR OF MEMORY.Translated bySantiago Restrepo. Nómadas [online]. 2015, n.42, pp.185-193. ISSN 0121-7550.

This text addresses the sculpture work of Colombian artist Doris Salcedo from her take on the topics of violence, memory and trauma and in dialogue with Samuel Beckett´s war experience. From a short reflection on the relation between language and traumatic experience, the text discusses the ways in which Salcedo explores the topics of loss, mourning and recollection in her works Unland (1995-98) and Noviembre 6 y 7 (2002). In the conclusions, the text comments on the work Shibboleth (2007) as an abyss of meaning that opens up a critical and productive space of interpretation.

Keywords : Doris Salcedo; aesthetic representation; violence; mourning; memory; Colombia.
