Abstract

ESCOBAR C, Manuel Roberto. Body and subjectivity in Latin America: resistance to the somatic culture of capitalism. Nómadas [online]. 2015, n.43, pp.185-199. ISSN 0121-7550.

Understanding the body as a ield disputed by various forces that create the subject in Colombia, including the research on the topic, the present article identifies two corporal constructions that resist the somatic culture of modernity in its capitalist version: the mestizo body and the baroque body, which share the opposition of the requirements that the Eurocentric cultures have tried to impose them. Thus, in multiple and creative ways, the body re-creates its existence, which is articulated to the surviving subjectivities within capitalism.

Keywords : body; power; subjectivity; modernity; capitalism; resistance.
