Abstract

KREIMER, Pablo. I Promise, Therefore I Am: Science, Knowledge, and Promises in Peripheral Modernity. Nómadas [online]. 2021, n.55, pp.13-27.  Epub Aug 15, 2022. ISSN 0121-7550.  https://doi.org/10.30578/nomadas.n55a1.

The purpose of this article is to reflect on the conceptual dimensions and dispositives that are put in place in the structure of techno-scientific promises within peripheral societies and contexts. For this, the author brings in the case of Chagas disease and analyzes the original mode of construction of the question at the beginning of the 20th century; also, its most modern formulation: the T. cruzi Genome Sequencing Project (causal agent of Chagas disease), at the beginning of the 21st century. Finally, it analyzes the clarities and opacities within the development of techno-scientific promises in non-hegemonic contexts.

Keywords : Technoscientific Promises; Peripheral Societies; Central Countries; Chagas Disease; T. cruzi Genome Sequencing Project; Big Data.
