BERBESI FERNANDEZ, Dedsy Yajaira y BARENO SILVA, José. DIAGNOSIS OF THE MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES OFFER IN THE MUNICIPALITIES OF ANTIOQUIA (2004, 2006 AND 2007). Hacia promoc. Salud [online]. 2010, vol.15, n.1, pp.41-54. ISSN 0121-7577.
Objective: recognizing the importance of information for decision making and the formulation of policies that seek to face the problem of mental disorders in the population, the diagnosis of the mental health services offer in the department of Antioquia in 2004, 2006 and 2007 is described. Materials and methods: a descriptive study comparing information on the offer of mental health services in 2004, 2006 and 2007. The primary source of information consisted of the 125 municipalities of Antioquia in charge of implementing collective actions within the primary health care plan. Results: 46% -57- of municipalities in Antioquia developed the mental health diagnosis, 61% -72- of the municipalities had a mental health project; domestic violence was the main event during the three years of the study 85% -89-. The department has an availability of 7 psychiatrists, and 35 psychologists per 100,000 inhabitants. Conclusions: until the importance of information regarding action and decision making is not recognized, the mental health issue will not transcend isolated actions without designed and evaluated strategies; additionally, without the political will reflected in programs for the intervention of latent and deferred problems an inconclusive and untreatable agenda will be created by local health authorities.
