Abstract

OROZCO CASTILLO, Magda Liliana  and  VELASQUEZ GUTIERREZ, Vilma Florisa. FAMILY RISK CHARACTERIZATION IN FAMILIES OF NURSING STUDENTS OF A STATE UNIVERSITY. Hacia promoc. Salud [online]. 2010, vol.15, n.1, pp.78-91. ISSN 0121-7577.

Objective: characterize the family risk of the families of first and second semester nursing students of a state university, during the first academic period of 2009. Materials and methods: transversal descriptive study with a quantitative approach, based on a 95 family sample and using the Total Family Risk 7-70 (1). Results and conclusions: 427 members of family groups were studied, of which 28% are adults between the ages of 31 and 49; the predominant family typology is nuclear family with 51%, followed by the modified extensive family with 18%, and family life cycles with adults 51%, and teenagers 46%. The majority of people perceived themselves as healthy 64%, although chronic pathologies prevailed, such as: hypertension 53%, cancer 40%, and diabetes 39%. The results showed a predominance of low family risk 78%, in which the subcategories of greater risk were: health by age groups, family composition, family morbidity, socio-economical environment, and family and health services. There was a high correlation between different subcategories: life style and psycho-affective environment (0.49), socio-economic environment and family morbidity (0.45), health practices and family morbidity (0.43), life styles and physical environment of the housing and neighborhood (0.42), health practices and life style (0.41). In conclusion, the biological, social and environmental risk factors dynamically interact in which the predominance of low risk is evidenced, therefore making it necessary for the university, health institutions and families to work together in order to maintain health conditions and improve the quality of life of these families.
