Abstract

ALZATE AMARILES, Erika; VELEZ, María Alejandra  and  LOPEZ, Yolanda Lucía. NEW RURAL HOUSING FRAMED IN THE HEALTHY HOUSING STRATEGY: COPACABANA, ANTIOQUIA (COLOMBIA), 2011. Hacia promoc. Salud [online]. 2012, vol.17, n.2, pp.40-59. ISSN 0121-7577.

Objective: To evaluate the sanitary and environmental conditions of houses in the "new rural housing" program and housing in waiting list in the framework of the healthy housing in 8 villages within the municipality Copacabana (Antioquia) in 2011. Methodology: Descriptive, evaluative, transversal study, in 17 new homes and 12 homes in the waiting list at the southeast rural sector of the municipality from the program of the Institute of Social Housing and Urban Reform. Informed consent surveys and feedback forms based on community and family cards characterization from the National Technical Committee on Healthy Environments and PAHO were used as tools for information gathering. A database was developed in Epi Info 3.5.1 and analysis was done in SPSS version 19. Results and Conclusions: Deficiencies were found in the application of healthy housing strategy in the program of "new rural housing" regarding sanitary and environmental conditions, reasons why practices are unhealthy for cooking, consumption of water, managing of sewing and solid waste. The program has as its main strength the possession or housing property, more secure infrastructure and lower health risks in housing provided. The social housing policy in the municipality has not yet articulated the healthy environments policy, reason why it is still necessary to continue improving the living conditions and reducing even more the health risks for vulnerable rural populations.
