Objective: To identify management indicators for the promotion of habits and healthy life styles through physical education, recreation and sports in educational institutions, Universidad San Buenaventura, Fundación Universitaria Luis Amigo and the Universidad de Antioquia training Centers. Material and Methods: qualitative research was the focus of the research as well as the historical-hermeneutical approach. The method used was documental analysis in order to understand real teaching practices in the educational sector and unveal management indicators. Results: The institutional speeches manifested the hygienization and therapeutic effect value of Physical Education, intention which can be observed in the different educational cycles where social and educational relevance are assigned to the responsible management of the body from the training in healthy body hygiene habits. Conclusion: According to health models in the school, developments dealing with hygienic and biomedical orienteation in the country were found. With a poor presence but without an adequate explanation, orientations for the critical approach on health favoring welfare were found. In many of the studied cases there are conceptual foundations to promote health as a transverse subject in the schools curricula from tohe orientations given by international organizations such as OMS and OPS.
