Hacia la Promoción de la Salud

Resumen

Objective: To establish the relationship between diseases resulting from inappropriate use of technologies, learning and teaching strategies in order to prevent students' health risks. Materials and Methods: Qualitative comprehensive research using ethnographic cycles. It was carried out in informatics and computing classrooms of public schools in Manizales (Colombia), from 2009 until 2011. Data were collected and analyzed through journals, observational records and interviews with virtual rooms teachers and coordinators. Results: The emergence of new diseases caused by technological impact of virtual environments has generated debates, dialogues and worries inside the pedagogical processes as well as the educational community. Although virtual technologies involve innovative learning strategies for new generations who are increasingly familiar with the cyberspace, it is recognized that the student population is at risk of incorporating other cultures' electronic habits that could affect their health and academic performance. Faced with this problem, institutions propose informed pedagogical strategies as preventive tools through workshops, projects and didactic material. Conclusion: In keeping to the educational policies, schools are favorable scenarios to understand the relationship between the environment, comprehensive education and students' health. Although virtual technologies have generated positive impacts, the risk of acquiring new diseases is increasing and worrying.
