Objective: To determine the relationship between hospitalization and the perception of humanized nursing care in patients. Methods: Cross-sectional analytic study performed on 132 patients during the first period from January to June 2012, at the Caribbean University Hospital in the city of Cartagena. A socio-demographic survey, a hospitalization data survey and the perception of humanized nursing care behaviors instrument were applied. Descriptive statistics and multivariate analysis was applied using Kruskal-Wallis Probability. Results: Female patients corresponded to 54.5%, 31.8% cohabitating with predominance of low stratum in 86.4%; a 15.2% were illiterate. With an 11.5 hospitalization days average, 27.3% in surgical services and 26.5% in medical services; 72% were stable and 51.5%had previous hospitalization. The overall perception of humanized care was 55.4% excellent, 35% good, 7.9% acceptable and 1.7% poor Humanized care was associated with the patients' state of health and with the hospital service with P<0.05. Conclusions: The hospital services and the patients' health status are significantly associated with the humanized nursing care perceived.
