Abstract
ROJAS BETANCUR, Mauricio; MENDEZ VILLAMIZAR, Raquel and MONTERO TORRES, Leticia. SEXUAL AND REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH IN ADOLESCENTS: THE FRAGILITY OF AUTONOMY. Hacia promoc. Salud [online]. 2016, vol.21, n.1, pp.52-62. ISSN 0121-7577. https://doi.org/10.17151/hpsal.2016.21.1.6.
Objective: Sexual and reproductive health is a social construct easy to understand and use by adolescents. This research focuses on the knowledge, attitudes and practices of a group of adolescents in the general population. Methods: A correlational study by random simple sampling was performed among 14 to 19 years old adolescents in the city of Bucaramanga, Colombia. Results: Good information for adolescents on sexual and reproductive health is highlighted but a questionable exercise of their autonomy is seen, especially on pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases prevention methods. Conclusions: This group reported a good insight about their health but denotes problematic aspects around the family and social relationships, the low impact of education on sexual and reproductive health and a disastrous perception on policies, programs and levels of care to adolescents from public institutions.
