Abstract

Health promotion and education for older adults are key policy guidelines within the Colombian health system.
Objective:
To evaluate the effects of health promotion and education actions implemented during the Covid-19 pandemic (2020-2022) on a population of older adults affiliated with a benefit plan administrator in Medellin, Colombia.
Methodology:
A short-term efficacy evaluation was conducted with an intervention group that participated in health promotion and education activities and a control group that did not participate. Knowledge and health care practices were assessed in areas such as nutritional health, mental health, physical activity and healthcare service utilization.
Results:
Among participants, there was a reduction in the consumption of foods high in saturated fat and sodium, a decrease in sleep difficulties, and an increase in healthcare service utilization compared to non-participants.
Conclusions:
Health promotion and education actions implemented by interdisciplinary teams increase health knowledge and care practices among older adults in Medellin, Colombia.
