Abstract

Objective:
To determine the effect of an intervention of active breaks on muscle strength and flexibility to reduce low back pain in administrative employees.
Method:
Quasi-experimental research, with a quantitative, prospective, longitudinal approach, correlational scope, and explanatory level, the sample was 33 administrative employees of the Neiva mayor’s office, the experimental group consisted of 17 people and the control group consisted of 16 people; who were evaluated for pain, strength and flexibility, respectively, using the tests Visual Analogue Scale, Sit And Reach and Biering Sorense, before and after the implementation of the intervention with active breaks; bioethical processes were considered for this type of investigative exercises, based on government and institutional guidelines for the respective development of the research.
Result:
There was a significant reduction in mean low back pain in the experimental group, went from 5.5 to 4.9, because strength and flexibility improved. In the control group, went from 4.6 to 4.8, and muscle strength improved, but in flexibility, there were no positive changes.
Conclusion:
An active breaks program that includes strength and muscle flexibility exercises contributes significantly to the reduction of dorsal-lumbar pain in the subjects who underwent surgery, it is suggested to increase the number of sessions, execution time and exercises to more significantly reduce the treated ailment.
