Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic and prevalent disease that generates important morbidity and incapacity. Recent literature suggests the importance of the early treatment in order to change the clinical course of the disease. The objective of this work is to establish directed recommendations to orient the management of patients with early rheumatoid arthritis based on the structured review of literature in agreement with the present conditions of the Colombian’s health system. General rules about diagnosis will be given as well as recommendations in the aspects of non-pharmacological treatment and use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, steroids, disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs and anti-tumor necrosis factor alpha drugs.
