The aim of this work is to introduce and develop the main ideas and aspects that contributed to the assimilation, formalization and organization of the academy criteria in the Colombian Visual Arts. Also, we describe the factors that were involved in the foundation of the first School of Fine Arts in Colombia during the XIX century, as well as the aesthetic and academic ideas that supported them during their first decades.
