Abstract

CASTRILLON ALDANA, Alberto  and  CARDONA OSORIO, Sandra. Urbanism and modern planning. Glocalities in the Medellín's modern urbanity formation. Hist. Soc. [online]. 2014, n.26, pp.17-51. ISSN 0121-8417.  https://doi.org/10.15446/hys.n26.44383.

This article aims to present paths to the understanding of the tension between urbanism, planning and urban fragmentation in order to open lines of interpretation and analysis of the modern city through critical-historic urban processes in which the will to regulate and manage the city space have intervened at different times and in different ways. This review includes, first, a conceptual approach to the history of modern urbanism and planning, which shall lead, secondly, to an approximate analysis of the forms of Medellin local planning, by means of vanguardist debates concerning world events during the twentieth century an the beginning of the present one.

Keywords : Modernity; urbanism; planning; urban fragmentation; glocality.
