Between 1869 and 1880 more than sixty writings on the acclimatization of eucalyptus in the Valley of Mexico were published in the press. A sample of these writings are the basis for understanding the purpose to acclimate the species by scientists from Mexico City through the press. The social history of science analyzes that such purposes were grouped into categories such as the therapeutic value of the species, the tendency to plant trees to improve urban hygiene, tested for eucalyptus had useful manufactures artisans and promote industrialization, and planting and beautification of public spaces of the city. The analysis of the sample reveals several practices, interests and objectives of amateur and professional naturalists on the process of acclimatization of foreign species to strengthen the Mexican economy.
