Abstract

HERMIDA, Carola. When literature is pedagogy. Lugones, reader of Martín Fierro. La Palabra [online]. 2015, n.26, pp.115-127. ISSN 0121-8530.

During the celebration of the First Centennial of the May Revolution in Argentina, a series of cultural and pedagogical programs were proposed by different conceptions of the arts, the humanities, and their role in delimiting national identity figuration. In this context, a certain sector of the intelectual field was given to the task of constituting a selective tradition, by putting together the first literary collections and foundational narratives, in the larger frame of ambitious educational projects. These are precisely the operations that Leopoldo Lugones performs in order to reinvent Martin Fierro, "gaucho" poem by José Hernandez in 1872, as national classic.

Keywords : national literature; Argentinian Centennial; Martin Fierro; El payador; Leopoldo Lugones.
