Abstract

GARCIA, Fernando; BERNAL, Diana R.  and  MORENO, Anyela. Social representations of protected Human Rights by International Humanitarian Law students of los Libertadores University. Rev. Derecho [online]. 2010, n.34, pp.207-238. ISSN 0121-8697.

This article reports the final results of the research project about "Social representations of Human Rights protected by International humanitarian Law in students of the Fundación Universitaria Los Libertadores", a qualitative study that uses the techniques of semantic differential and focus group. It allows to identify the recognition of IHL as an ideal guarantor for protecting human dignity in a situation of armed conflict, although not recognized as a considerable force, and this not only because of the impunity that follows its violations by different actors, but specially because many students have a broad understanding of what is an armed conflict, by extending this concept to problems of public order and delincuency. From these findings recommendations are made to the Fundación Universitaria Los Libertadores to strengthen literacy in IHL and Human Rights making them cross-cutting in their curricula.

Keywords : Social representations; Human Rights; International Humanitarian Law; semantic differential; focus group.
