Abstract
LAUREANO, Abel and RENTO, Altina. Consequences of the Divergences among States on the Development of the European "Schengen Area". Rev. Derecho [online]. 2014, n.42, pp.96-116. ISSN 0121-8697.
European integration was conceived, from its beginning, as based on a politically democratic and economically open system, thus attributing to free-dom of movement a central place in the design of such international integration experiment. But it is also true that integration has been hampered, from a certain time on, by the growing divergences of interests, strategies and factual conditions among the participating States. Closely related to the European Union, the "Schengen Area" has also been conditioned by the aforesaid gaps among States, staying submitted to the inherent uncertain-ties, inefficiencies and debates. So, it divides Europeanists and Eurosceptics, given the plethora of problems in which it remains immersed.
Keywords : "Schengen Area"; Circulation in Europe; Divergences among States.
