SANCHEZ-LAURO, Sixto. THE GENERAL STUDY OF LLEIDA AS THE COMMOM UNIVERSITY OF THE CROWN OF ARAGON. REFORMIST TRACES IN THE SIXTEENTH CENTURY. Rev. Derecho [online]. 2018, n.49, pp.229-259. ISSN 0121-8697.
The General Study of Lleida [Lérida] was founded in 1300, willling to be the common and only university in the Crown of Aragon. The university´s government represented the kingdom’s territorial plurality. Lleida stood out for its legal studies. The General Study’s decline, which had been suffered since the end of the fifteenth century, prompted a deep reform during the second half of the sixteenth century. The model of the University of Salamanca was taken into account. The foundation of University Schools at this stage was within this objective. The monarch Felipe II showed great interest in the revival of the General Study as a brake on Protestant movements north of the Pyrenees.
