Abstract

GARCIA RUIZ, MARÍA ANDREA  and  SANTOS MALDONADO, IVÁN. Leaving weapons, seeking votes: the transformation of Latin American guerrillas into political parties. Rev. Derecho [online]. 2019, n.52, pp.37-56. ISSN 0121-8697.

The article seeks to identify elements that allow a better understanding of the electoral performance of Latin American guerrilla groups that, once the confrontations have been overcome, decide to transform themselves into political parties. Thus, the aim is to establish to what extent key characteristics of guerrilla groups such as territorial control, organizational structure, ideological positions and alliances allow the establishment of causal relations with respect to the electoral performance of the URNG, the FMLN, the FSLN, the M-19 and the MLN-Tupamaros.

Keywords : Latin American guerrillas; partisan adaptation.
