Objective. To contribute to knowledge of bat species diversity in four towns of coastal sub region in Córdoba department. Materials and methods. During the months November and December, 2005 was carried out the investigation of bats community in four towns of the coastal area in Córdoba department. By means of rapid ecological evaluation (REE) methodology, areas with representative forest fragments were chosen of the coastal area, with vegetable formation characteristic of tropical dry forest. Captures of bats were made using mist nets during two consecutive nights in each selected place with a sampling effort of 40 hours/net. Results. 15 species of bat divided in 10 genres and 3 families were registered. The most abundant species was Artibeus jamaicensis with 36,6% of captures, followed by Sturnira lilium and Glossophaga soricina 13,8 and 10,9%, respectively. The presence of Desmodus rotundus species (bat vampire) viral vector of bovine rabies was registered. Conclusions. Data indicated that even the high grade of existent human intervention in the coastal sub-region, and in spite of the homogenization of landscape matrix by effects of extensive livestock, the fragments of studied forests presents an important population of bats that are considered tolerant to habitats with disturbances and open areas, especially of Phyllostomidae family that the best represented with 12 species.
