Objective. To present the clinical case of a pancytopenia canine patient due to abuse of estrogens as birth-control method. Materials and methods. Canine patient of race Poodle 8 years old, which was taken to consultation because, presented decay, inappetence, petechial hemorrhages and hiphema. Results Once made anamnesis, physical and paraclinical exams as well as evolution of clinical diagnose was demonstrated exogenous estrogenic intoxication as definitive diagnosis. Conclusions. The use of estrogens as method for terminating pregnancy in dogs are not recommended or considered ethical for many authors or veterinary associations for several reasons: an effective dose of estrogens has not been safety still established, because their administration can became a uterine illness. In a prospective study, dose of estrogens that appears to be safe were unsafe. Doses of estrogens that appear to be safe produce uterine disease. Medullar aplasia is a common result of the estrogenic intoxication and it can even lead to death.
