Introduction. The Upper Gastrointestinal Hemorrhage, the incidence estimated is 100 out of 100,000 adults per year and generate more than 300,000 hospitalizations per year. The causes and risk factors in emergency patients are known, but ¿What about patients ICU? Materials and Methods. This is a retrospective study, case series. Patients selected were the intensive care unit (ICU) that presenting the upper gastrointestinal hemorrhage and receiving prophylaxis. The information was collected through reviewing medical records and applying the designed instrument, the information was processed through the program Epi info V7. Results. It was found that 32% of the comorbidities associated with mechanical ventilation. It showed that 32% of patients had experienced previous use of mechanical ventilation. In 32% of patients showed that the lesion site was at Anthro level. The 47% of patients developed upper gastrointestinal hemorrhage during the first day ICU. The 26% of patients who died during their ICU stay was not associated with upper gastrointestinal hemorrhage. Discussion. Evaluating early-related factors with upper gastrointestinal hemorrhage should be a screening intervention to every patient entering the ICU, thus allowing to identify those who may present with bleeding in order to avoid timely.
