Cardiovascular disease has been identified as the leading cause of death in men and women both globally and Colombia. Its prevalence remains essential since, in recent years, there has been little change in trends related to prevention or treatment. Recently, however, gender analysis has begun playing a pivotal role. It has been used to identify some epidemiological, pathophysiological, and etiologic differences between men and women that could potentially impact the diagnosis, treatment, and hard endpoints This article aims to describe the background and the different factors that have been studied regarding cardiovascular diseases concerning gender.

Keywords : cardiovascular diseases; women; primary prevention; acute coronary syndrome.
