Abstract

QUIJANO-MEJIA, Claudia Milena  and  LINARES-GARCIA, Johana. Reflections on Social Intervention in the Rural Areas: Experiences in Magdalena Medio, Colombia. Prospectiva [online]. 2022, n.33, pp.259-278.  Epub Jan 01, 2022. ISSN 0122-1213.  https://doi.org/10.25100/prts.v0i33.11547.

In this article, we analyze the social intervention developed by professionals of Social Sciences in general, and Social Work in particular, in rural areas of Magdalena Medio (Colombia). Based on problematization of the categories of Social Intervention and Rurality, we developed a systematization of experience, understood as social research, which offered different learnings. However, for this case we focused on identifying the main obstacles that accompany the design and execution of the so-called productive projects for the rural sector in which we are inserted as professionals: projects of late yield that don’t allow the subsistence of the peasant family in the short term, the difficulties of collective work in areas affected by war, the facilities for the development of extractive activities such as coca crops and mining, and the limitations of the regulations about participation in social programs / projects. In conclusion, we highlight that in social interventions in rural areas, a vision of the countryside as backward and archaic prevails in the professionals, limiting the intervention to integration to the market and capital, and not, as proposed from its philosophical sense, to social transformation.
