Abstract

SATIZABAL-REYES, Melania; UNAS-CAMELO, Viviam Stella  and  MACA-URBANO, Deidi Yolima. Expectations about work in young university students: Approaches from a private university in the city of Cali, Colombia. Prospectiva [online]. 2023, n.36, e20412483.  Epub May 09, 2023. ISSN 0122-1213.  https://doi.org/10.25100/prts.v0i36.12483.

This article aims to describe the expectations that a group of young university students have about working as professionals. Methodologically, a mixed descriptive and cross-sectional research was conducted, deployed in its quantitative phase through a census of 461 students and in the qualitative phase in in-depth interviews with 28 students. Differences in job expectations were found according to gender: women prefer to be employed, have longer-term employment relationships, solidarity work, earn less salary and have more free time, while men prefer to be entrepreneurs, change jobs more often, have competitive jobs, earn more money and have less free time.

Keywords : Job; Higher Education; Gender.
