Abstract

BUENDIA-MARTINEZ, Inmaculada  and  CARRASCO, Inmaculada. Women, Entrepreneurship and Rural Development in Latin America and the Caribbean. Cuad. Desarro. Rural [online]. 2013, vol.10, n.72, pp.21-45. ISSN 0122-1450.

The rural world is in transformation. Rural development requires changes that allow the revaluation of rural areas on new income sources. The active and formal involvement of women in this mutation is essential, though economic instruments are needed to promote their empowerment. The purpose of this article is to analyze the relationship between female empowerment, entrepreneurship and rural development in Latin America. To that end, a Structural Equation Model has been performed with the Partial Least Squares technique. The results confirm the dependency relationship between female empowerment and rural development through entrepreneurship and development.

Keywords : Female empowerment; rural development; women entrepreneurship; development; new rurality; Latin America; economic growth; Women; community development; socioeconomic aspects; Caribbean region; Structural Equation Model.
