Abstract

ORDUNA CARSON, Miguel. URBAN PROSPECT OF THE SOCIAL EXCLUSION TO BE ABLE, CLASS AND KIND IN THE STREETS OF THE MEXICO CITY. 19TH CENTURY. Anu.hist.reg.front. [online]. 2013, vol.18, n.1, pp.13-31. ISSN 0122-2066.

This paper explores class and gender conflicts in Mexico City in the XIX century. These conflicts constitute signs that establish and explain social exclusion. The way in which the streets are experienced by citizens creates new modes of exclusion and set up limits to time and geography. In this paper, urbanism, history and literature are used to show how the XIX century liberalism proposes the possibility of an individual and free appropriation of public spaces. Nevertheless Mexican liberalism, in the terms of its hegemonic project, established the mechanisms of political integration throughout social exclusion.

Keywords : Mexico City; liberal Project; 19th century.
