Abstract

A monument seen as a historical document, generates a figure, feelings, memories and representations in the collective memory, this is the case of La Gloria Bolivar monument, which upon recognition of facts and historical figures in Colombia at the end of the century nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, adds and changes the conception of the nation and its genesis. This is why the subject of this text is to explain from the monument's iconographic method Gloria Bolivar, containing a sense and meaning, related to the Nation. For this, the documentary and iconographic method is employed. As a result, it is stated that the neoclassical monument, is a representation of the hero, the republic and the nation, some elements such as territory, unity, freedom, victory and the struggle that lasts over time.
