Abstract

MOREYRA, Cecilia. In Search of Everyday Comfort. Domestic Furniture in Córdoba (Argentina), 19th Century. Anu.hist.reg.front. [online]. 2018, vol.23, n.1, pp.73-91. ISSN 0122-2066.  https://doi.org/10.18273/revanu.v23n1-2018003.

The objective of this article is to explore the modern corporal experience of comfort, taking as a guideline the furniture of seat and storage built into the domestic life of Cordoba (Argentina) during the nineteenth century. The research is set within the field of studies of material culture and is based on documentary sources: postmortem inventories from which we reconstruct and describe the everyday material environment in the city of Cordoba. The detailed reading of these documents and the systematization of the data obtained in databases allowed us to describe domestic interiors as well as to recognize and explain their transformations over time. As a result of the analysis we identified a significant multiplication, diversification and specialization of the seat and storage furniture. Although gradual, we understand that these changes tended to produce more comfortable corporal experiences.
