Abstract
RAMIREZ RODRIGUEZ, Rodolfo. The Vision of the Immigration to Mexico in the Foreign Travelers (1821-1850). Anu.hist.reg.front. [online]. 2019, vol.24, n.2, pp.15-47. Epub July 31, 2019. ISSN 0122-2066. https://doi.org/10.18273/revanu.v24n2-2019001.
This article is an approximation to the process of colonization and immigration to Mexico seen by a group of foreign travelers and immigrants from the first half of the 19th century. The objective is to show a qualitative analysis of the perception of the landscape, the social aspects of everyday life and the material culture of the Mexican population through the books of some European travelers. Through them are shown the compatibilities and discrepancies of the integration process through the adoption or rejection of certain western models, linked to the expectations of the Mexican social segments. Some economic, social and political obstacles will recur during the first independent years in Mexico; however, it is possible to demonstrate the origin of an initial construction of national identity.
