Abstract

BILBAO, Lucas Matías. The Role of the Municipalities and the Parishioners in Mantaining the Cult. Buenos Aires Campaign (1854-1875). Anu.hist.reg.front. [online]. 2020, vol.25, n.2, pp.91-117.  Epub June 30, 2020. ISSN 0122-2066.  https://doi.org/10.18273/revanu.v25n2-2020004.

This article addresses the role that municipalities and rural parishioners had in maintaining the clergy and the cult in the southern curacies of the Buenos Aires campaign. The appearance of the municipalities in the vast rural area of Buenos Aires (1854), was central to the governmental administration, but also for the territorial expansion and consolidation of the diocesan Church. This study is focused mainly on the official regulations which established the relations between the municipalities and parishioners and in the practices, which supported the cult and religion in these local areas. It is attempted to contribute to the study of ecclesiastic centralization processes in the 19th Century.
