DOMINGUEZ-RASCON, Martín Orlando. The dulcian in the Guadalajara Cathedral: castes, religion and music. Anu.hist.reg.front. [online]. 2024, vol.29, n.2, pp.47-80. Epub 24-Jul-2024. ISSN 0122-2066. https://doi.org/10.18273/revanu.v29n2-2024003.
This article offers an analysis of the use of the dulcian in the religious music of the Guadalajara Cathedral (Mexico) throughout the 18th and early 19th centuries. The segments proposed show a reconstruction of the social view of the instrument and its musicians in the Musical chapel of Guadalajara according to the musical, historical and spatial construction. The categories addressed are intended to explain the articulation of the social situation and the musical, geographical, religious, ethnic (castes) and even health conditions. As a result of this joint analysis, the coordinated action that allowed the use of this instrument as part of the sacred musical practice of the cathedral until the second decade of the 19th century became visible.
