Abstract

RAMIREZ BORRERO, Luis Horacio; CANDELO BECERRA, John Edwin; CAICEDO DELGADO, Gladys Nayiber  and  BURBANO JIMENEZ, Diego. Effect of series FACTS on steady-state voltage stability. Ing. Desarro. [online]. 2009, n.26, pp.117-138. ISSN 0122-3461.

This paper presents a study to determine the effect of series FACTS (Flexible AC Transmission Systems) on steady-state voltage stability, for different operating conditions of the power system. For this study, the simulation software NEPLAN is used for modeling FACTS in the IEEE300 power system. This power system is changed slightly to comply the operative constraints and apply the proposed location methods for FACTS devices. To determine the effect of these FACTS devices, a contingency analysis is carried out with the maximum and the reduced chargeability, and the voltage stability analysis using modal analysis and PV curves. Finally, it presents a comparison chart of eigenvalues and voltage stability margin results using series FACTS devices.

Keywords : Voltage stability; series FACTS; power systems; modal analysis; voltage stability margin.
