Abstract

Results on the synthesis process of nanometric ceramic powders of the SrxBa1-xNb2O6 compound (SBN) for two values of x (0.50 and 0.61). SBN exhibits ferroelectricity in the composition range 0.25<x<0.75. It belongs to the family of tetragonal tungsten bronze structured ferroelectrics. Reaction combustion method was used in order to obtain fine ceramic and single-phase powders using temperature as low as 900° C. Addition of cobalt generated ferromagnetic behaviour reflected in magnetic hysteresis curves obtained at room temperature.
