Resumen

SANCHEZ, LADY XIOMARA; PEREZ, JACSON ALEXIS  y  AGUDELO OBANDO, LORENA. Physicochemical and microbiological quality of the Pavayaco Stream: Inga Indigenous Resguardo of Condagua, Mocoa, Putumayo (Colombia). Ing. Desarro. [online]. 2025, vol.43, n.2, pp.256-276.  Epub 01-Jul-2025. ISSN 0122-3461.  https://doi.org/10.14482/inde.43.02.612.084.

The objective of this research was to analyze the quality of the physicochemical and microbiological parameters of the Pavayaco stream, located in the Condagua district, Mocoa, Putumayo (Colombia). To this end, and with the community's support, a tour of its course was conducted and divided into three zones (upper, middle, and lower), identifying and georeferencing the discharge points. The characterization of the water body included physicochemical parameters (oxygen level in the water, alkalinity, biochemical and chemical oxygen demand, hardness, phosphorus, dissolved and suspended solids, and turbidity), as well as microbiological parameters (total coliforms and Escherichia coli). Four pollution indices were used: ICOMI (mineralization), ICOMO (organic matter), ICOSUS (suspended solids), and ICOTRO (trophic pollution). The analysis results showed a high presence of organic matter and total coliforms in the upper zone, with an ICO-MO of 0.701, which represents a significant health risk. However, as the stream descends, its flow increases and it undergoes a self-purification process. Finally, efficient alternatives are proposed such as connecting to the sewage system, environmental education, and the implementation of was-tewater treatment systems, to preserve the ecological integrity of the stream and the health of the community.

Palabras clave : basic sanitation; domestic wastewater; dumping; flow; water pollution.
