The purpose of this research work is to analyze to what extent the policies of the State with regard to the internal armed conflict and the growth of the paramilitary groups have modified the internal structure of the FARC, in the 1990s. The FARC have shown signs of transformations such as the decentralization of the top leadership structure, the creation of Blocks made out of various Fronts and collegiate command structure, the increase in the number of members of the secretariat, and new political and military strategies. This research project subscribes to the need to evaluate FARC’s internal development vis-à-vis the changes within the State and its policy of containing the advancement of the guerillas, subjecting the FARC to strong military attacks, without so far evidencing success.
