Abstract

VARGAS, sebastián. bicentenary of Independence in Colombia: rituals, documents, thoughts. Mem. Soc. [online]. 2011, vol.15, n.31, pp.66-84. ISSN 0122-5197.

The purpose of this paper is to explore the politics of memory and the public uses of history in the context of the bicentennial of independence in Colombia. It proposes a double balance. On the one hand, the rituals: those celebrations and commemorative projects, both official and dissident, who were held to mark the 200 years of "independence" from Colombia. In the other hand, the documents: books, articles, documentaries and other intellectual and artistic production that has been addressed to reflect on the bicentennial celebrations in Colombia and Latin America.

Keywords : Bicentennial of independence; ritual commemoration; politics of memory; public uses of history; Cultural events - Bicentenario - Colombia; Colombia - Bicentennial - War of Independence, 1810-1819; Colombia - History - War of Independence, 1810-1819; Latin America - Bicentennial - War of Independence, 1810-1819.
