Abstract

MANSILLA, Miguel Ángel; MUNOZ-HENRIQUEZ, Wilson Enrique  and  PINONES-RIVERA, Carlos Daniel. Memory of an omission. The exclusion of women from the founding memory of Chilean Pentecostalism (1909-1915). Mem. Soc. [online]. 2018, vol.22, n.44, pp.102-117. ISSN 0122-5197.  https://doi.org/10.11144/javeriana.mys22-44.moem.

The reconstructions on the origins of Chilean Pentecostalism delivered by the Pentecostal apologetics, theology and social sciences are characterized by a significant limitation: the construction of a negative image or the exclusion of women in the movement's foundational memory. This article aims to describe and analyze this phenomenon. Based on the analysis of primary and secondary sources, it will be shown that the exclusion and the defamation of the female image is not only due to a meth odological and epistemological limitation, but also to a power strategy lead by pastors posi tioned in the hegemonic centers of Chilean Pentecostalism.

Keywords : memory; exclusion; power; women; Pentecostalism; Chile.
